Mid America Pet Food Issues Voluntary Recall Due to Possible Salmonella Health Risk

The exact food:

•  Victor Super Premium Dog Food, Hi-Pro Plus in 5 pound bags
• Look on the back of the bag for  lot code 1000016385 with Best By Date 4/30/2024

To date, there have been no people or pets infected with Salmonella.  The food was distributed across the United States.

While dogs have a much smaller chance of getting Salmonella, these are the symptoms to look out for:

• Lethargic
• diarrhea or bloody diarrhea
• fever
• vomiting
• decreased appetite
• abdominal pain

The thing to really watch out for is your dog can be infected, not be sick, and pass it on to other animals or humans.

This Recalled Food is More Dangerous For Humans

Humans can contract Salmonella just from touching the food, the bowls, the food bag, or your dog that you may not even know is sick.  Be sure to wash your hands well after coming in contact with the contaminated food.

What Should I do If I Think I have Salmonella?

From the Mayo Clinic, generally, you will see symptoms between 8-72 hours after exposure.  Symptoms are:

• diarrhea
• fever
• stomach cramps

Most of the time, it will work it's way out of your system in a few days up to a week.  If symptoms persist, see a doctor.
