The Cause Of The Accident Has Been Determined To Be Intoxicated Driving

USA Today reports that the man who has been determined to be at fault for the May 1, 2025 wreck outside of Yellowstone Park had a blood alcohol content of .20%, twice Idaho's legal limit to drive.

The pickup driver, 25-year-old Isaih Moreno of Texas has been found at fault for the accident that claimed 7 lives, including his own. Moreno swerved into the opposite lane and collided with the tour van.

The Victims In The Accident Were All Tourists

The Yellowstone Tour Van involved in the wreck was carrying 14 passengers. Six of the passengers, including the van driver perished in the accident. They were:

  • Ivana Wen, 28, Milan, Italy
  • Jianping Li, 71, Guangxi, China
  • Li Nie, 64, Arcadia, California
  • Aifeng Wan, 53, Arcadia, California
  • Xiaoming Jiang, 66, Guilin, Guangxi Province, China (Driver)

  • Montana ranks as the worst state for drunk driving, with 8.57 drunk drivers involved in fatal crashes for every 100,000 licensed drivers, and 7.14 people killed in crashes involving a drunk driver for every 100,000 state residents. Both rates are the highest in the nation.
  • More than two-fifths (43.51%) of traffic deaths in Montana are caused by drunk drivers, the highest in the nation.
  • Underage drinkers are also at high risk in Montana. The state has the worst rate of drunk drivers under age 21 involved in fatal crashes (1.17 per 100,000 licensed drivers).
  • Big Sky Country has the 11th highest number of DUI arrests per 100,000 licensed drivers (450.50).
