Assisted Living Financing Delays Are Hurting Great Falls Elderly
I don't know why it's taking so long to get my mom financed to live in assisted living. My legally blind, nearly deaf mom who has recently been diagnosed with dementia is living independently in an apartment in Great Falls. An apartment they (East View) sent her home to until she can get financing in late July or early August. Unless, of course, I or mom could write a check for over $11,000 that day. Cause all of us have an extra 11 grand at the end of the month. I know people who don't even make that in 5 months.
Right now, my mom can only cook with a microwave, WHEN she can see the buttons. She likes to think she's cleaning, but how clean can a surface be that you can't see? It takes her 2 shifts to make her bed, make half, rest then make the other half. Ever since she was diagnosed with dementia she has lost I'd say from 40-50 pounds because she's NOT EATING. She CAN'T see to cook. This is just the tip of the iceberg.
She still has her own rights as she hasn't and won't designate a power of attorney. There is LITERALLY nothing I can do to further this along. She refuses to live with me.

I have literally called everyone from the Senior Center in Great Falls (no call back) to Governor Gianforte's office and everyone in between.
So far, I know no more today than I did the day they told me mom needs assisted living. It's been about 6 months and I'm really at the end of my rope. My patience was gone in October.
I feel like the people who are supposed to help her are half way hoping she dies before they get to her. Why else would nobody help?
When I called DPHHS today, they gave me someone who could "give you some tips to getting your mom financed". If I had a buck or 2 for every time someone in Great Falls has told me here are some tricks without actually telling us who to get a hold of, my mom could pay for her stay out of her wallet.
Anyway, I got an answering machine. Again.
