Watch For These QR Code Scams
Jencap warns of these common QR Code Scams:
- A postcard that looks like it came from a legitimate business promising you something, like product, if you scan the QR code on the card and fill out the information on the SCAM website
- A QR code stuck on a parking meter/gas station/restaurant looking like you can scan it and pay for parking, food or fuel.
- An email that looks like it's from a bank account that will ask for all of your information once you go to their SCAM website

How To Avoid Falling For A QR Scam
From Jencap:
- Always verify the source and only scan a code from somewhere or someone you trust
- Check for tampering. Make sure it isn't just a sticker or a sticker that's been placed on the real QR code
- Only use the QR reader that comes with your phone. A 3rd party scanner can actually increase the chances of getting scammed
- Never download an app from a QR code. ONLY use your phone's app store
- Never use a QR code from an email
- Never use QR codes to make a payment unless you are REALLY REALLY sure it's authentic
- Do not give login details or other personal information on a site you got to with a QR code. Go to their actual website
