Measles First Appeared In Gallatin County, Montana In Mid-April
Back in mid-April, I wrote about an outbreak of measles in Gallatin County. You can catch up on that article here.
When measles first appeared, a family had travelled out of state and brought the disease home with them. The infected went to a store in Belgrade and another in Bozeman. After they found out they were infected, the family self isolated and have since recovered.
We still don't know if the family was vaccinated, but it's highly unlikely as the vaccine is 97% effective and an entire family came down with it.
Then, on May 18, 2025, there were 11 cases in Gallatin County. Get reacquainted with that story here.
On June 3, 2025 the number of cases in Montana had risen to 15 and 2 individuals had been hospitalized for the measles. Read that article here.
Also on June 3, a person infected with the measles came to Great Falls to go to the doctor. Luckily, no one has tested positive yet. You can catch up on that article by clicking here.
How Many Measles Cases In Montana Today?
Montana DPHHS has a handy chart I want to show you. The last update was on June 16, 2025. The report is from January 1 to now.
As you can see, Gallatin County has a lion's share of the cases.
What bothers me the most is the people with the least say in their medical care are being hit the hardest.
Another way to say it is kids are not being vaccinated (And keep in mind, these parents denying vaccines are most likely vaccinated themselves.) and left suffer through diseases that were once eradicated, like measles.

Like the Texas parents said when asked if they would vaccinate their kids after ALL of their children came down with measles and ONE DIED, “We would absolutely not take the MMR,” the mother said, because the couple have four other children who contracted measles and survived. “The measles wasn’t that bad, they got over it pretty quickly.” --The Hill They did get over it quickly, except of course, the one who DIED.
A Few Measles Vaccine Facts

One dose of MMR vaccine is:
- 93% effective against measles
- 72% effective against mumps
- 97% effective against rubella
Two doses of MMR vaccine are:
- 97% effective against measles
- 86% effective against mumps

Measles is definitely summering in Montana. If you're vaccinated, no worries.
If not, wow, you shouldn't really go ANYWHERE. If you're immune compromised, measles CAN kill you. Not saying it will, but it could.
How many people have died from the MMR Vaccine ever? Zero. Maybe symptoms from the vaccine, but the vaccine itself is one of the safest in the world.
