What if it could be like Christmas in Montana every day of December?  The folks at Good Housekeeping came up with a great list of little things we can do every day to make every day in December feel like Christmas.

How To Make Every December Day Like Christmas

  • Make your own wreath.  Not everything has to come from a store, and what a festive way to say welcome holidays like a pretty home made wreath.
  • Do a good deed, pay it forward.  That doesn't mean you have to buy anyone anything.  Doing a good deed can be just holding the door open for someone.
  • Shop a holiday market.  There's just something about a holiday market and craft show that invokes such Christmas spirit.  Plus, one of a kind hand made gifts are always a great idea.
  • Visit or volunteer at a Senior Center.  So many of our elders are far from family or just plain don't have a lot of family left.  Contact your local senior service office and see how you can make a difference this holiday season whether it's calling a game of bingo or maybe just visiting someone whos been shut in this holiday season.
  • Play a game of I-Spy, Christmas style.  While you're out and about for the holidays, get the family in the spirit with this fun car game.
  • Buy or make something for a special teacher, librarian, barista, or anyone you encounter often through the year.  The kindness of a small gift, shows you care all year.
  • Go play outside.  Give ice skating or sledding a go this holiday season.  You could wind up with a new Christmas tradition.
  • Have everyone wear matching pajamas on Christmas Eve and/or Christmas and take lots of pictures.  I love this silly, happy tradition.
  • Have an Eggnog tasting party. This might just be the adulty tradition that makes you a Christmas super star.  Do you have to serve fruit cake at an affair like this?
  • Make sure you leave Santa AND ALL OF HIS REINDEER unique treat this Christmas Eve.  While you're at it, if you need to, you could always make Santa his own key and keychain as well.
  • Make decorations out of last year's Christmas cards.  It's fun AND it preserves Christmas memories for a lifetime.
  • Color in a Christmas coloring book.  That goes for adults, too.  Coloring isn't just for kids anymore.
  • Write letters to Santa.  Again, this goes for adults, too.  Santa wants to hear from everyone, big or small.

  • Decorate a table-top tree with guests during your Christmas celebration.  It doesn't matter if it's Christmas Day or Thanksgiving, decorating a tree gets everyone into the spirit of the season.
  • Hang stockings near the fireplace. Nothing says, "We're waiting, Santa" like stockings hung by the chimney with care.
  • Build a cozy fire, watch Christmas movies.  Now, that's what I call a Christmas tradition.
  • Participate in a Christmas Cookie Swap.  Not only do you get to make Christmas cookies, you get to SWAP for a dozen or two Christmas cookies that you may have never had before.
  • Go cut down your own Christmas tree. Not only is it a great family tradition, it's totally legal and very affordable in Montana.

  • Take in all of the holiday displays in town.  Maybe just a walk down Central Avenue or a trip to Flag Hill will be all it takes to get you into the spirit of the season.
  • Wear a Christmas sweater.  Ugly, cute, it doesn't matter.  Just get yourself all dolled up for the season.
  • Make a holiday simmer pot.  Bring all the smells of the season right into your home with a wonderful smelling holiday simmer pot.

  • Give an unexpected gift.  It doesn't have to be big and expensive.  Many times seniors feel completely unseen and forgotten during the holidays.  Check with your local senior center to find out how you can make a difference this holiday season.
  • Donate to a food bank or Toys for Tots or any other beloved charity.  Giving IS Christmas.
  • Make a Christmas Playlist, or better yet, have 97.9 The River on in the background for your entire holiday season.
  • Write a letter to a soldier.  Make sure the men and women of our country feel America's love especially on Christmas.  Click here to learn about Holidays for Heroes with the Salvation Army.
