Montana For The Holidays: Create Magic With Simmer Pot Recipes
The Holiday season is here. One of the things that can strike up a cherished holiday memory is a perfect Christmas smell. Maybe it's a turkey roasting, or the smell of pumpkin pie in the oven. Smells can bring your holiday to a whole new level.
Today, we're talking Simmering Pots for the holiday.
Holiday Simmering Pot, Midwest Nice Blog
You will need:
- Fresh or Frozen Cranberries
- Oranges
- Whole Cinnamon
- Star Anise
- Allspice
- Cloves
- Fresh Rosemary
Add all the ingredients to your Dutch oven or crockpot (I prefer a crockpot for long simmer recipes) then add enough water to, at least, fill the pot halfway. Bring it to a simmer. Be sure to check the pot off and on to make sure you have enough water in the pan or crockpot.
Christmas Simmer Pot, This Healthy Table
You will need:
- 1 red apple
- 1 green apple
- 1 orange or clementine
- 1 lemon
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 tablespoons fresh or frozen cranberries
- several sprigs of fresh thyme
- optional - 3 star anise, 1 tablespoon juniper berries
- 6 cups water
Slice the apples orange and lemon into slices about 1/4 inch thick. Add all ingredients to your Dutch oven or crock pot and bring to a simmer and check off and on during the day.
Christmas Morning Simmer Pot, White and Woodgrain
I think this one is my favorite. You will need:
- coffee beans (any flavor)
- cinnamon sticks
- vanilla
Put all ingredients into a Dutch oven or crockpot, bring to a simmer, check off and on during the morning.
Any one of these Holiday Simmer Pots will make your home smell like a Christmas Dream and bring back some wonderful memories of holidays past. Remember, these pots DO NOT taste as good as they smell. Drinking them is not recommended.
