Be Safe In Big Sky Country: GMC/Chevy Pickup Recall
General Motors Is Issuing A Recall On Silverado And Sierra In Montana
Kiplinger is reporting that GM has recalled 820,000 pickups in the United States and in Canada due to an issue with tailgate latches.
What Models Are Being Recalled In Montana?
The recall is for GMC Sierra 2500/3500 and Chevy Silverado 2500/3500 that are equipped with a manual gate and power lock release. In America, around 311,000 are Silverados and around 259,000 are Sierras.
What Exactly Is Happening To These Tailgates?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that sometimes water can get into the tailgates and contact the electronic gate-release. This can cause a short circuit and could cause the gate to unlatch while the pickup is parked. They add that if the gate becomes unlatched, the cargo could fall out causing a road hazard and possibly a car accident.
The NHTSA recommends that you check your tailgate BEFORE you start driving because GM has received 136 complaints stating that tailgate opened while they were driving.
