Here Are Montana’s 2025 Winter Storm Names
Montana's Winter Storms Have Names
I had no idea there were names for the bad snow and ice storms that happen in America.
I remember in the early 2000's when tropical storm Tammy hit. Then in 2023, it was hurricane Tammy. I can't even tell you how glad I was that those storms weren't worse, and that they spelled Tammy THAT way and not my way. (Ask any Tammie/Tami/Tammy, it matters) I sometimes think of women named Katrina and how that must be.
It's very common in America to name tropical storms.
Little did I know, but in the future winter storms would have names, too.
The Weather Channel Has Been Naming Storms For Years
Taking a peek at the internet today, I learned that The Weather Channel started naming winter storms back during the winter of 2012-2013.
They did this in order to raise awareness of the dangers that brutal winter storms can cause. They don't name every storm that comes along in the winter. The storm has to be high-impact with a lot of snow and ice anticipated in one or more regions of The United States.
The first storms can be named as early as October (just ask any Montana kid who puts a coat over their costume.) , but generally the first named storm happens in November.
What Is The Peak Month For Winter Storms?
November or December are the peak months for storms. The cold weather systems ramp up and leave us blanketed in cold and snow.
In actuality, the month with the most named storms is February.
Now that snow is here, the Weather Channel has released their storm names for 2025-2026.
