Montana’s New ID Design: Enhancements For Safety And Security
Montana ID's and Driver's Licenses Are Getting A New Look
The State of Montana has revealed a newly designed and more secure Montana License or ID cards. The new design will make the Montana ID one of the most secure in America.
What Is So Special About This New ID Design For Montana?

The new IDs feature a durable polycarbonate design featuring Montana's landmark's in the background in black and white laser designs that are hard to forge, multi-color ink, color changing materials, ultraviolet designs, and raised tactile features. The pictures are in black and white plus a smaller secondary picture, a pretty Montana Sapphire featuring your initials and birth year, and a signature overlap.

In addition to the elements above, the new ID's will also have up to 3 icons: A white star surrounded by a black circle shows that it is a Real ID, a flying black Eagle shows that you are a Citizen of the United States, and finally, a white Y surrounded by a black heart in a white circle outlined in black.
In addition to all of the other features, the new Montana ID also has encoded elements and security backgrounds that are designed to help reduce fraud and identity theft.
When Is Montana Rolling Out The New IDs?
The new Montana IDs will start being circulated in December 2025. Don't worry if you have an old design. Montana will honor the old designs until they expire. It's not another mad rush to the DMV like last year for the Real IDs.
