Minimize Your Houseguest Anxiety With These Easy Tips
Hosting company in your home. It can be really cool and really stressful. Family arguments and such aside, here are some tips from Pretty Simple Mom to make sure that your houseguests AND YOU enjoy the visit.
Help Your Company Help Themselves (and they'll be less stressed, too)
- Have things like towels, toilet paper, chargers, snacks and drinks easy to find and easy to access
- Let them know immediately where they're sleeping
- Let them know any house rules, like no shoes, immediately as to not foster resentment or fights
Decide Things Beforehand As Much As Possible
The fewer things you have to decide while you have company, the better and less stressful the visit will be for everyone. Things like meals, activities, babysitters, transportation and more can be easily planned for in advance taking pressure off of everyone.
Another great idea is to plan and/or prepare meals before-hand. It's easy to find things that freeze well and cook them in advance. You can also find a wide variety of easy to whip up meals and snacks in the grocery store. If you don't usually go for that kind of thing, treat yourself. These ideas will also leave you a lot more time to visit.
Plan For Self Care
Plan for and stick with ideas for YOU while you have visitors.
- head to bed a bit earlier than you normally would, then watch tv, read or do whatever brings you peace
- find a space where you can get a quiet moment to catch your breath like the pantry or bathroom
- be willing to compromise but also be willing to say no
- plan for a bit of exercise. A solo walk can work wonders.
