17 Year Old Tourist Burned While Walking In Yellowstone Park Near Lone Star Geyser

Yellowstone National Park is reporting a 17 year old tourist was burned July 28, 2025 while exploring the Lone Star Geyser area which is near Old Faithful. While walking in the area, his foot broke through the thin crust. The teen was treated in the park and transported to a hospital in the area for further treatment.

Yellowstone National Park is investigating the incident.

This is the first thermal injury in Yellowstone this year. In September 2024, a tourist was walking her dog in Yellowstone with her husband off trail. Her foot and ankle broke through the thin crust and she received substantial burns.

  • Stay away from wildlife. View the wild residents of Yellowstone from a distance of 25 to 100 yards from the animals, depending on the type of animal
  • In thermal areas, stay on boardwalks and trails. Over 20 people have died from injuries sustained in thermal areas of Yellowstone
  • Never ever feed the animals. Not only are you putting your life in jeopardy, you are endangering the life of the animal
