Senior Support Spotlight: Making A Difference In Cascade County
There Are A Few Services For The Elderly In Cascade County
- Meals on Wheels: Meals are delivered daily between 10am and 2pm in Cascade County. My mom has recently received her first delivery of Meals on Wheels. This is especially nice for my mom since she's had to give up cooking due to her poor eye sight.
- Cascade County Senior Centers: Belt, Cascade, Centerville, Great Falls, Monarch and Sun River all have senior centers. These can be a hub of conversation, good meals and a sense of community.
- Foster Grandparent Program: A great way for seniors to stay active being a role model, friend and mentor.
All of these services are vital in providing an environment of healthy, happy senior citizens. In a productive society, we need residents of all ages sharing their experiences and building a strong foundation for the future.
Getting Old Is A Privilege Given To Very Few
Getting old is hard and scary, but I'm so glad it's happening to me. I feel very lucky to be alive most days as I lost my husband at a very young age, 39. Now I'm older than he ever was. It freaks me out, and yet I feel so fortunate.
Right now, I'm lucky enough to have my mom living in Great Falls. Every time I feel sorry for my aches, pains and grey hairs, I think about what my mom goes through on a daily basis. She just turned 80 on July 4th, so she's much deeper into the senior citizen life than I.
If you know of a senior citizen that could use a little help, even just socializing, introduce them to all of these services our county has to offer. People do actually die of loneliness.
