To keep your furry family members safe, I'll have a gallery of unsafe holiday foods for your pets at the end of the article. But it's not all about keeping foods away from your pets. There are things you can do to make the holiday happier for everyone, including your furry fam.

Keep Your Pets Safe With These Thanksgiving Tips

  • Don't let pets in the kitchen: Use a baby gate to block off the kitchen, or lock your pets into safer areas of the home
  • Let company know not to feed the pets: Make it clear to everyone these foods can severely injure or kill your pets, and they're off limits for the holiday
  • Watch for unattended food: Keep unattended food or snacks away from your pets
  • Make sure your garbage isn't easily accessible: Make sure garbage can lids are secured tightly and that food is properly disposed of. It's also a good idea to take trash out a lot during the holiday just to double down on your pet's safety.
  • Have safe Thanksgiving treats for your pet: White meat turkey (no bone), plain green beans, carrots or pumpkin, frozen blueberries or a tiny portion of plain sweet potatoes. That way they can celebrate, too, and live to see Christmas.
