In Montana, you'll be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't have some kind of a pet. Sure, there are those people who hate animals (how could you EVER trust that person?) or people like me who live somewhere that forbids it. Otherwise, you're likely to find a pet in your Montana friend's home.
In America, 66 Percent Of Households Have A Pet
According to Forbes, that's up ten percent from the numbers in 1988. Most Americans, 97 percent, consider a pet to be a family member.
Millennials are the largest group of pet owners at 33 percent, followed closely by Gen X at 25 percent and Boomers at 24 percent.
Where Does Montana Rank In America For Dog Owners?
Like I said earlier, we love our pets.
According to Camp Bow Wow there is only one state in America that has the highest dog ownership per capita than Montana. Here are the top 6:

- Montana 51.9%
- Arkansas 51.6%
- Mississippi 51%
- West Virginia 49.6%
- Indiana 49.4%
That's a lot of dedicated dog owners.
Montana Is No Slacker When It Comes To Having A Cat
According to Cats, Montana is considered one of the most "cat-crazy" states. Here are the top 6 states:
