Reach Out And Touch Someone In Yellowstone National Park

There are many potential random things one can see once you get deep into any national park. Would a phone be one of them?

Once upon a time in our country, A pay phone would not be a random thing by any means, they were everywhere.

Nowadays, with the advent of the cell, and smart phone, more than likely a payphone will just be a shell of it's former self.

I'm only half right in this case.

The tour guide came across a working payphone in the deep recesses of Yellowstone National Park.

Like the article says, there are a lot of endangered species in Yellowstone. However, this one may take the cake.

According to tour guide Jim Holstein, this was found at the Norris campground, and it's on the Wyoming side of Yellowstone.

According to Cowboy State Daily, Holstein explains that the Norris Campground closed down due to covid-19 back in 2020, and has since been closed due to lack of staffing. The only thing available there are the bathrooms and this lonely, lonely payphone. He adds that he's unsure if the coin operation works, collect calls might be the only way to communicate.

There is just one reason anyone thinks this phone and service still exists in remote Yellowstone. In an area that might not have cell service and where a phone battery might not have juice, this sole payphone might be a lifeline for anyone in an emergency.
