Wait A Second. Montanans Can Own A Flamethrower?

What would anyone need with a flamethrower in Montana?

I think it's safe to say that as a Montana, I love anything that hurls projectiles whether that be a firearm, catapult, or even a cannon. I guess one can count a cannon as a firearm. What about things that heave a flame as a projectile?

We all know certain things are just not allowed like automatic weapons, grenades, RPG's and things oversized and unusual meant for warfare. However there's one thing perfectly okay to own that I would say fall into the above categories.

Yes, I'm talking about flamethowers. What could be more fun and slightly dangerous than operating a flamethrower.

There is a few companies that make civilian flamethrowers. One in particular that I found was Vulcan.

They explain the in's and out's of owning a flamethrower:

In the US flamethrowers are not regulated by the federal government. Flamethrowers are not considered a firearm by the ATF. You do not need an NFA tax stamp or FFL dealer to transfer ownership. However, it’s the purchaser’s responsibility to ascertain that ownership and or use does not violate any state or local laws or regulations.

Lucky for Montana, the only state where it's illegal to own a Flamethrower is Maryland. As well as strict regulation in California. Bummer for them.

Just remember, If you have one, you are working with a giant open flame that spews flaming fuel. Make sure to think about all of the safety measures involved with yourself, people around you, as well as surrounding structures. It you are smart about it, and in a controlled environment, flamethrowers can be super fun!
