Did you see what went down on Facebook when the Mayor, Cory Reeves, posted about the parking situation and what our city leaders have decided. Again, spending our money with no thought to what they're really doing because "it's such a small amount" or whatever.

Get out the popcorn and let's break this down.

Check out Mayor Reeves Post:

What I Love About This Great Falls Commission Meeting

That they heard public opinion. I wish there were more, but I can't find anything and I'm looking. I'm not trying to be snarky, it's just turning out that way.

What I Hate About This Great Falls Commission Meeting

Again, our commission has decided that "modest" rate increases are ok and everyone should be ok with them. Mayor Cory Reeves said on his Facebook post as a response to someone from Great Falls:

  • "Insert constituent name here, We raised them a modest 50 cents. I get that the timing isn’t ideal, nobody wants extra costs right before Christmas, but the reality is that taxpayers are currently subsidizing downtown parking at nearly $20,000 a month. We had to at least stop the bleeding while we work toward a permanent solution."

Another quote I'd like to highlight in this gem of a Facebook Post:
  • "Downtown parking has been a passionate topic in Great Falls since the 1940s." Great Falls Mayor, Cory Reeves. Eesh. This isn't the flex you think it is.
Mayor Reeves, you're on your second term. You weren't thinking about this before? The current situation doesn't work. And the situation before that didn't work, the one before that didn't work, the one before that and I'll bet way back in the day they were even fighting over hitching posts as opposed to parking spaces in downtown Great Falls.
The City Commission just raised our rates "by the price of a meal at McDonald's" earlier this year. (I wonder what it's like to live a life where you don't have to worry if prices just to have basic necessities like WATER aren't something you ever have to worry about.)
I've seen city commissioners and other elected officials complain about their pay for the job, so you must all make enough money on your own that another rate increase was just nothing to you.

From 250 words to a single sentence: The Great Falls City Commissioners jacked up our utility rates in June 2025 by 27%.

What Would I Do About The Parking Situation In Downtown Great Falls?

First thing I'd do is get a hold of the city manager in Whitefish. Somehow this little tourist town can get by without charging people to park there.

Regardless of what the city decides, a majority of us decided that this kind of representation is okay on November 3, 2025. Looks like we're voting to have our pockets picked on demand whenever the city feels the need.

Maybe I should have gone into politics. The music just sucks so bad.
