Onions Are Suddenly Off The Menu In Montana
Numerous Fast Food Chains Ditching Onions During Recall

This particular outbreak has made over 50 people sick and killed one person.

According to Reuters, some restaurant chains are pulling the onions out of an abundance of caution. Those restaurants are:
- Burger King
- McDonalds
- KFC
- Taco Bell
- Pizza Hut
Why So Many Recalls?
It turns out, it's because America is doing a BETTER job of making our food safe. Not the opposite. Medical Express reports there are a few reasons for the perceived increase.
- Better communication with consumers. We are hearing of more recalls
- Companies are recalling for non-life threatening reasons like the wrong products listed on packaging
- Allergen recalls
- The Food Safety Modernization Act makes it easier to pull risky food
More Recalls Mean The New System Is Working
Medical Express says that's an indication of the entire process working for Americans and their safety.
Another problem may be the reporting/understanding of the levels of a food recall.
- Class III: Low possibility of illness
- Class II: Low chance of illness or death, but serious enough to be aware (LA County Public Heath Department)
- Class I: Most serious recall. Highest probability of adverse health consequences or death

I Guess These Recalls Are Good?
All year, I've been thinking something was passed in the US that made food safety slide so we have more recalls. Turns out, I was wrong. Again.
It's time for the FDA to educate the public about this instead of letting us all live in freaking FEAR of our food.
