What You Need To Know About Montana’s Plate Loophole
Everyone In Montana Knows About The Montana Registration Loophole
It's a fact that no matter where you go in America, you will probably run into a very expensive car with Montana license plates.
You think to yourself, hey, a fellow Montanan. As I learned in Oregon, that doesn't mean squat when it comes to finding fellow Montanans. One day we were at Bastendorff Beach just outside of Charleston. There were 3 cars, not including mine, that had Montana Plates. Turns out me, my daughter and only one other rig there were actual Montanans. It was kind of gross to me.

Why Do Out-Of-Staters Register Their Cars Here In Montana?
The Montana registration loophole is common among owners of expensive cars, because the state doesn’t charge sales tax, doesn’t require emissions testing, and has cheap registration fees. It also allows non-residents to create LLCs based in the state and register cars to them.--The Drive
The Drive goes on to say using the Montana loophole is technically illegal, but everyone's doing it. Just look at car meets everywhere.
Cody Detwiler, aka WhistlinDiesel, Was Just Arrested For Tax Evasion

Detwiler admitted to registering his Ferrari in Montana to save up to $30,000 in sales taxes where her resides in Tennessee. (Reason 7,589,222 NOT to have a sales tax in Montana.)
Over the weekend Detwiler alluded to the fact that he was being made an example, and asked to what end.
(I'll tell you to what end. We don't want guys here who drive through a stubble field and start crap on fire. I know boxes of hair that have a higher IQ than to drive a low riding car like that in a stubble field. Scroll down in this article and you can see the foolery. For the love of God. Truly, go away.)
Takeaways From This Article From A Montanan
- Detwiler committed Tax Fraud. Everyone who uses the Montana registration loophole is breaking the law whether they think it should be a big deal or not
- Hopefully some more of these rich a-holes who come here to register their car (that costs more than most homes in our area and then hit our highways just to see how fast they can go without getting pulled over), will also get hit with tickets, fines, arrests, whatever. YOU. ARE. BREAKING. THE. LAW. and, as per usual, making it more expensive AND dangerous for the people who live here
