In 2023, Montana Homeowners Saw Their Tax Bills Skyrocket

According to Montana Free Press, the tax bills in Montana rose by 21 percent in the reappraisal cycle of 2023. They say that the taxes went up between $98-$660 a year more for the roughly 956,000 Montana home owners.

Own A Home In Montana? Time To Claim Your Rebate

The Fairfield Sun Times is reporting that the window is open for Montana home owners to claim a $675 property tax refund.

Which Montanans Qualify For The Rebate?

  • Owned a home in Montana for a minimum of 7 months in 2023
  • Lived in that home for at least 7 months in 2023
  • Received a bill for property taxes, special assessments or any other billing on the Montana residence listed above in 2023
  • Paid property taxes on the above referenced property in 2023

When An How Can I Apply For The Rebate?

The property tax rebate window is open from August 15 through October 1, 2024

You can apply on line for the property tax rebate at getmyrebate.mt.gov.  When you apply for the rebate, you may choose to get your rebate via direct deposit or by paper check through the mail.  Rebates should be received no later than December 31, 2024

“Property taxes are too high, which is why we prioritized property tax relief for Montanans in the 2023 legislative session,” said Gov. Gianforte. “Taken together, we secured the largest property tax rebate in Montana’s history. I encourage folks to get online tomorrow and claim their rebate."
