This past week has me thinking about a lot of radio stuff. I think it's time someone shared the story of an old Great Falls morning show host and what you don't know about them.

The names have been changed (because I've always wanted to say that about something I'm doing). Despite everything you may think while reading this:

It's absolutely true

Once Upon A Time In Montana Radio

Back in the late 1900's there was a radio station in Great Falls called Country 94 point 5. On that radio station was a well liked host that we'll call Serena.

When I say that Serena was well liked, I mean by listeners. If you knew Serena in person, let's just say, you may not have been impressed. Serena was a bitter and selfish morning show host that, naturally, only thought her and her show mattered. Serena would make scenes in meetings, yell at co-workers and generally raise hell at work EVERY SINGLE DAY.

I can honestly say that Serena is the 3rd worst person I've worked with in broadcasting. If you weren't in radio, you'd never have known that before today. Absolutely a hateful, angry self-centered individual that could turn it off for up to 2 minutes at a time to perform on the air. She. Was. Awful.

Eventually, she left Country 94.5. Even though I was at the competition when she left, I got calls from friends that worked with her to share the joyful news.

Fast Forward A Bit

I was working over at the other radio group when the news came down about Serena. Serena had been brutally murdered and her corpse was abused. It was a horrible crime.

You know what happened with some of your most beloved radio hosts? I could hear them cheering and yelling, "ding dong the witch is dead" when my friend called to share the news. I know, it seems horrible if you don't know her.

Who said that? My goodness, I'd love to tell you, but that person is my friend. My friend who endured a hell of a lot of grief caused by that woman and I feel he and all the other djs who were celebrating that day were completely within their rights. It was totally in poor taste, yet I understood why they were doing it.

(Just FYI, radio hosts did that when Rush Limbaugh died too.)

Abused people, oppressed people, bullied people? They tend to celebrate when the abuser/oppressor/bullies are dead.

Here's some pictures of the Clydesdales when they were in Great Falls.
