My Mom Has Recently Been Diagnosed With Dementia

I've written a couple of things about this journey I'm taking with my mom. Mostly the insane prices to care for the elderly and some of the cold hearted people I've dealt with in this very short time.

There is so much more to cover so lets talk about some other things.

There Are Some Very Good People Caring For Our Elderly

I have seen some of the kindest, most compassionate care in the last few weeks than I've ever seen. It does my heart good to know this very vulnerable group has such wonderful people on their side.

It's scary to pick out a place for your parents to live where other people have 24/7 access. Especially when it's hard for that parent to tell what's going on, you know? Plus, this is where she is now. Her home is now a room.

It's Very Hard To See This All Happening To My Mom

The range of emotions and the fear that I see Mom go through nearly daily are just gut wrenching. The first day she went to the rehab, she was scared to death and furious. I don't blame her for either of those things. I can't even imagine what that must have felt like.

We had spoken of this many times before, but she doesn't always remember details anymore.

Now, she seems convinced that if she passes enough tests and tries hard enough, she can go back to her apartment.

She keeps telling us things she does remember.

She feels ganged up on. (She hasn't said that but I can tell.)

She misses her cat.

I'll keep you up to date on this journey Mom and I are on together.

It's so hard and it's so sad.
