Crime mapping, to ensure that you live in a safe neighborhood. After learning a little about it, I thought I'd share it with you all because it's pretty cool and with how things are, you can never be too careful.
What Is Crime Mapping?

Crime mapping is a way to map, visualize and analyze crime patterns. It's used a lot with law enforcement agencies.

I put in zip code 59401 with a date range of November 7, 2024 through November 23, 2024 and this is what it pulled up for that zip code.
- Dollar sign=theft or larceny
- Spray can=vandalism
- Exclamation point=disturbing the peace
- Fist=assault
- Drink and pill=drug or alcohol
- Mask=burglary
- Gun=weapons
- Lopsided car=vehicle break in or theft
- the numbers mean multiple infractions

How Can Crime Mapping Help Deter Crime
After playing around on this website a little, I think it can be utilized for good in a lot of different ways.
- Look up the safest neighborhoods where you want to live and shop where crime is lowest
- Compare crime rates when trying different methods to improve your home and your town
- Bring awareness to crime in neighborhoods, and band together to take care of it
- Bring awareness to neighborhoods who decided to drive crime out of their neighborhood and highlight their success stories
- Kill time that isn't necessarily doom scrolling or doom shopping
I think one thing I'll do, for research purposes, of course, is crime map true crime shows I watch on the weekend. Take my couch detective to a whole new level.
