Late last year I wrote an article asking the question whether or not Montana is ready for medical usage of psilocybin to treat people whom struggle with certain mental heath cases and it seems like the introduction of these methods are imminent.

As of yesterday, House Bill 955 was officially put on the table at the Montana House of Representatives.

According to an article from The Marijuana Harold, this new proposed law would allow those that present post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), an anxiety or depressive disorder or a substance use disorder to legally use psilocybin for medical and therapeutic purposes.

This bill enables patients to be certified to use the substance for medical use, vendors to have licenses to distribute, label, and administer to therapeutic treatment centers.

So far there are only two states in the United States that have legalized medical psilocybin for use, that being Colorado and Oregon. In addition to Montana, there are several states currently considering legalization.

Montana has had a shaky history with passing laws involving controlled substances, first with the passing of medicinal marijuana in 2004, changing restrictions in 2011, then revising in 2016, to the legalization of recreational marijuana in 2020. Recreational marijuana laws are under fire again with the newly proposed SB546 by Kalispell Sen. Keith Regior(R) to end marijuana in Montana, which currently has no sponsors and is predicted to not go anywhere.

All the hoopla still surrounding Marijuana in Montana despite it's legalization makes me wonder the thoughts of some people when it comes to medicinal psilocybin.
