Passing Time Is Easy with These Montana Road Trip Games
Who Was Really Getting the Vacation in My Family for Summer?
As school prepares to wrap up for the year across Montana and the U.S., many families will pack the family camper or car and hit the dusty roads for their destination. Or, in my case, it probably involved my parents getting a vacation from me instead.
My grandmother would pick me up in the summer and we traveled across the Big Sky state to places deemed important to learn about. State and National Parks, long-distance relatives in small towns like Libby or Jordan. The typical family trips.

And all the while hitting those roads in a 1966 sun-faded red Ford Fairlane, we would play different games to pass the time and keep my grandmother from leaving me at some rest area for being annoying the entire trip.

Did You Realize You Were Learning Even Though You Weren't in School?
Most often those games would involve some sort of learning to them, though I was probably oblivious at the time. Of those, one of my favorites encompassed identifying where the number on a Montana license plate was from.

But it wasn't just the county that would need to be identified, it also had to be county seat of wherever that plate was from. If nothing else, my grandmother was pretty crafty at keeping my learning curve continuing in the summer months away from school.
Make Some Memories This Summer with Games for Everyone on the Road
As I grew older, the need to stay on the ranch and help my parents took precedent over those road trips, but the memories made are everlasting. I've played the same game and others with my wife, son and his family over the same roads my grandmother did.

With summer now banging on the door, and those road trips beckoning, what games will you be playing when the rubber meets the road? Need some ideas? Check below for our gallery of easy games any family member can play along with on the backroads and highways of Montana.
