A couple of weeks back, I had 3 of my grand kids over for the night, and we went to McDonald's with my mom the next morning.

I took the 3 boys to McDonald's instead of a traditional sit-down breakfast restaurant for 2 reasons:

Kids love McDonald's
I thought I'd save some money

Boy Was I In For A Surprise

What a sticker shock when our breakfast was rocking $50. Fifty dollars at McDonalds. I had a sausage egg and cheese sandwich, mom had a sausage sandwich and ONE hash brown, 2 of the boys had pancakes and sausage, NO EGG, and my oldest grandson had 2 sausage sandwiches. Drinks were 2 coffees, 2 small sodas and a water.

The price blew. my. mind. I just figured the next time, I'll take them to a nicer restaurant with a more well rounded meal for about the same price.

Then I Start Seeing This Stuff:

I am not the only one experiencing sticker shock at McDonalds. I used to go for breakfast, just by myself, 2-3 times a week because it was reasonably priced and very tasty. I quit going when a sandwich or two and a coffee cost as much as a nice, sit-down restaurant where I don't wait on myself.

In fact, I started making my own breakfast and bringing it to work because of this. I'm saving so much money bringing home made breakfast that I added a salad a day for lunch. Those that eat salads a lot know that's kind of expensive.

Keep that old, rusty, dusty and irrelevant argument where it belongs, in the basement closet with all the other predictions that didn't work out. Other fast food places, Taco Bell, Hardees, Arby's, Wendy's etc., have all managed to pay their employees a decent wage without raising prices through the roof.

CEO Of McDonald's Is Weighing In

McDonald's officials said the company will focus more on affordability after reporting weaker-than-expected sales at its U.S. stores.
The company’s CEO, Chris Kempczinski, said in a recent earnings call that he believes customers have grown “weary” of high prices.
“Eating at home has become more affordable,” Kempczinski said. “We actually saw that cohort” — referring to customers making $45,000 or less — “decrease in the most recent quarter,” he added
