Tacos Or Bedding? Great Falls Makes Some Weird Choices In Commerce
30 years ago this year, we all grabbed our bowl of popcorn, favorite drink and blanket to snuggle down to watch the latest from Hollywood, "Demolition Man" starring Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes and a virtually unknown at the time, Sandra Bullock. What did we learn? That a utopian type lifestyle may not be sustainable, and apparently, Taco Bell won the fast food wars.
Fast forward to today and you are driving down 10th Avenue South in Great Falls suddenly learning that another location to make a run for the border is happening! Don't get me wrong, I've made that run quite a few times at several different time points in the day and early morning hours over the years. But did we really need another one?
In a recent article here, Tammie points out some of the great businesses that we have lost in just the last year. Not just localized stores or businesses, but even big chains like Fit Republic have decided to head out with no looking in the rear view mirror. Some of these are businesses that have been family run for years, and are deciding to close to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Kudos! It's well deserved! But what about those chains?
Bed Bath & Beyond has always been a favorite for me in Great Falls. A little pricey on some things, but overall, I could always find what I needed. But instead of having that to rely on, I get to give gift cards to a taco place? What is going on in our city that we can't manage to support a national chain store that offers shopping other than those two behemoth's with blue and white paint? I love me some tacos, but 3 locations in Great Falls? Apparently the movie was right, Taco Bell really did win the fast food wars of the 21st century right here in our little town.
