Cleaning Product Recalled Over Bacterial Contamination
A cleaning product sold at retailers both in the United States and Canada has been recalled because the product has been found to be contaminated with bacteria. I'll leave it to any English teachers reading this to determine if that qualifies as ironic. I don't want to derail things by getting into an Alanis Morissette debate right off the bat.
Angry Orange recalled
The recall is for Angry Orange Enzyme Stain & Odor Remover. The recalled product was sold in multiple sizes at retailers both physical and online like WalMart, Target, Home Depot, Amazon, and Chewy from 2019 until the end of 2025.
The recall estimates that there are at least 1.5 million bottles of product that have now been recalled, although that honestly sounds a little small to me, when we're talking about a six year window where this was being sold in stores across two different countries.
What's Angry Orange contaminated with?
The one they're concerned with is Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which is naturally found in soil. If you're normally healthy, you likely don't have much to be concerned about, but this bacteria can cause serious health concerns in people with lung issues or a weakened immune system. Thankfully, so far, there haven't been any issues reported in connection with the recalled cleaner.
I have this stuff right now. What do I do?
First off, stop using it. There are instructions for getting a refund on the Consumer Product Safety Commission website linked above. Once you've completed them, throw the cleaner, bottle and all, in the trash.
