Montana Man Busted After His Wife Tells Police About His Meth Operation

Did you ever see that show Breaking Bad? Well, this story is a lot like that if Skylar White went to the police.

If you haven't seen it (go watch it!), it's about a family man named Walter White who decides to turn to a secret life of dealing meth after discovering he has terminal cancer. Throughout the show, his wife Skylar regularly struggles with the internal dilemma of whether or not she should turn her husband in.

Things might have turned out better in that show if she had followed the footsteps of one woman in Billings.

'Til Prison Do Us Part

In a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Montana on Monday (8/3), a man in Billings earned himself three years in prison "followed by four years of supervised release" thanks to his wife turning him in.

According to authorities, Jonathan Lloyd Erwin, 38, "received at least one package of methamphetamine in the mail, which he had intended to sell."

Somewhere along the way, his wife found out and did not like what she saw. She contacted the U.S. Postal Service in February 2025 and told them her spouse was getting drugs through the mail.

Her tip helped authorities launch and investigation that came with its own special operation.

How Do Police Find Drugs in the Mail?

It sounds like a silly question but law enforcement really thought this one through. According to the release, they intercepted a package they deemed "suspicious" because it came from a fake address.

When they got a warrant and searched the package, they found 7.5 ounces of meth. Authorities then confiscated the drugs and swapped it out with rock salt so it could be delivered to Erwin.

Erwin decided to hide his beloved rock salt in the rafters of his garage before police showed up and found it. Now, when police got there, Erwin's wife was present and reportedly "reiterated to agents that her husband was receiving drugs in the mail."

What can we say? She's enthusiastic!

Authorities eventually confirmed that Erwin was buying his drugs off the dark web following a search of his phone.
