Great Falls Animal Shelter Maintains A No-Kill Status
The Great Falls Animal Shelter works every day to house stray animals and find them loving homes.
The work that the Great Falls Animal Shelter does in our community, in my opinion, is second to none.
Of course, I'll always have a soft spot for the Animal Shelter for the simple fact that both my dog and my wife's dog came from their facility.
Best Friends Animal Society
The Best Friends Animal Society recently recognized the Great Falls Animal Shelter for reaching and maintaining an impressive animal welfare record.
The recognition was for maintaining a no-kill status since 2023.
This means that the Great Falls Animal Shelter has had an overall success rate of 90% in saving animals in our community.
Key Lifesaving Initiatives
- Adoption Drives: The shelter hosts multiple adoption events, including the Bissell Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelters” and “Home for the Holidays."
- Community Partnerships: The shelter has raised public awareness for pet adoption and shelter services by partnering with local businesses, city departments, and community organizations. Events like “Raise the Woof,” “Drool in the Pool,” and an online auction encouraged community engagement.
- Vaccination Campaigns: During the World Rabies Vaccination Day event, the shelter vaccinated 77 animals, surpassing the previous year’s numbers and promoting health in the community’s pet population.
A No-Kill Vision for the Future
The main goal of the Best Friends Animal Society is to achieve a no-kill status rate throughout the United States by 2025.
A 90% survival rate defines a no-kill status and allows for humane euthanasia only in cases where severe medical or behavioral conditions exist in the animals.
The Best Friends Animal Society has championed the no-kill status since 1984.
