The Massive Cost Of Groceries In Montana

In these uncertain economic times, finding ways to try and save money is a pretty smart thing to do.

Unfortunately, it seems nearly impossible to save money on groceries, as Montana has one of the highest costs compared to almost every other state.

LendingTree’s Grocery Spending Report

When it comes to food, you can certainly cut coupons and purchase items on sale, but the reality is that "you get what you pay for."

Here in Montana, I'm not sure we're getting what we pay for, at least according to a new report breaking down how much each state pays for their groceries.

LendingTree, an online lending marketplace website, took a look at what a family in each state paid a year for groceries and how much more it was than the national average.

How Much Montanans Spend On Groceries

Groceries can take up a big portion of your monthly budget, and here in Montana we're paying almost 10%, 9.7% to be exact, of our monthly budget on groceries.

That means we're also paying 12.6% more for our groceries than any other state across America.

All of that combined puts Montana at #4, tied with Alaska for the state spending the biggest share of their household income on groceries.

As for the difference in national average, we were ranked #12 in that metric.

Sadly, I don't see this improving anytime soon, as tariffs are starting to kick in and we're seeing the impact at the checkout already.
