Another Montana Bail Bondsman Faces Serious Allegations

Perhaps you remember back in April when we reported on a Billings bail bondsman accused of abusing his position by soliciting sexual favors from women he bailed out.

Now, another Montana bail bondsman is facing similar allegations.

State Auditor Suspends Kalispell Bail Bondsman's License

According to the Daily Montanan, State Auditor James Brown has suspended the license of Kalispell bail bondsman Laine Kendall Callahan while the investigation and legal process move forward.

Investigators allege that Callahan exchanged bail bond services for sexual favors from at least one client. He's also accused of using an unlicensed person to assist with bail bond work and improperly handling vehicle titles that were used as collateral.

The suspension is considered an emergency action while the allegations are investigated. Callahan has denied the claims.

Second Montana Bail Bond Case Raises New Questions

The timing of this case is hard to ignore, as it comes less than six months after 46-year-old Billings bail bondsman Louis Christopher Ikeda pleaded guilty in federal court to coercing women into having sex with him in exchange for posting bail.

These are separate cases involving different people, but seeing similar allegations surface so close together is likely to raise concerns about an industry that often works with people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

As of now, the case against Callahan is continuing through the legal process, and no findings have been made on the allegations.

With two high-profile cases making headlines in less than a year, these allegations are likely to bring increased scrutiny to Montana's bail bond industry.
