Ticket prices are THROUGH THE ROOF. And it's not even the artists, it's the ticket outlets.

I just got done writing the sad article that announces the end of an era in Montana, Rockin' The Rivers has called it quits. Forever.

Recently, I Talked With A Great Falls Leader About Concerts

As a radio announcer, people come to me and the other jocks a lot asking if they should bring this act or that act to Great Falls. Will people come? Is it worth the ticket price? Will you all help us promote it? And so on. It's kind of neat being a part of planning something like that.

What sucks is when they don't listen to you (I'm not saying we always get it right. We don't. Nobody does.), the concert tanks and then they ask you why, or they come up with a litany of reasons why nobody came blaming it on everything from the venue to the weather to everything in between. Never once considering that it was the choice of the act that was bad. Period. In my close to 40 years in this business that is the #1 reason people don't go to a concert. They don't want to pay for that artist.

It's Like They Always Say, You Get What You Pay For

They say a lot, don't they? But sometimes, they're right. Put up an extra 10 grand and get an A or B list act and make an extra 30 grand, or go cheap on the C-D- or god forbid, the socials pick, nobody is going  to that show.

It Helps If Actual Band Members Are Still Alive AND In The Band

The person I talked to contended that people just aren't going to concerts. I said they aren't going to concerts to see the half brother of the cousin of one of the sisters of the lead singer of the band that has one original member, and they play keyboard.

Stop The Scam: Area Codes To Avoid Answering

I know that's an extreme example, but would you consider yourself at an Aerosmith concert if Steven Tyler wasn't singing? Would you tell everyone you saw Guns 'N' Roses if you really only saw a GUITARIST from Guns 'N' Roses?
