The Worst Season For Spiders In Montana Is Here
Let’s just get this out of the way right now, I don’t like spiders. To say I’m scared of them, however, isn’t entirely accurate. Unless they’re hairy, spiders that are the size of a basketball coming at me at full speed, I’ll stick to just not “liking” them.
After all, many of us have the size advantage 9.9 out of 10 times.
Still, spiders can become problematic and when there’s a ton of them in one location, I don’t care who you are - that is overwhelming in one way or another depending on how you feel about arachnids.
Are there a lot of spiders in Montana this time of year?
“A lot of spiders” can be subjective, right? For some that might mean “one more than nothing” and to some it might mean “thousands lurking in a small front yard.”

What we can say is that you’re about to notice more spiders than normally soon and it’s for a “good” reason: male spiders are on the hunt for some eight-legged lovin’.
Montana spiders are about to get “freaky”
As gross as that might sound, we can’t change what’s inevitable. According to multiple pest experts, we’re about to enter spider mating season which they say begins late summer and early fall. This means male spiders are using those fuzzy little hairs on their legs to “sniff” out their female counterparts who are waiting in their webs.
The female spiders are emitting what we’ll call “sexy scents” for the males to track down with the goal of reproducing. They'll even make their webs "more attractive" to draw in the males according to CBC.

Because of all of the shenanigans caused by these “excited” spiders, we often see more male spiders in places we normally don’t as they “look for love in all the wrong places.”
If you’re already frightened by spiders, does this up the ante? Stay safe this mating season!
