Beef can be used in anything and is used in everything. Along with chicken, beef is one of the most commonly used meats in cooking and in Montana, we love our beef.

Now, shoppers are urged to double-check labels on a particular beef product following a major recall.

New Beef Recall: Nearly 3,000 Pounds Contaminated

According to a release from the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the USDA, Mountain West Food Group, LLC is recalling nearly 3,000 pounds of beef due to a dangerous contamination on Wednesday, December 27th.

Mountain West Food Group, LLC, a Heyburn, Idaho establishment, is recalling approximately 2,855 pounds of raw ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O26, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The beef, which we'll picture below, is also sold at Super 1 stores so it's especially important for Montanans to double-check their fridges and freezers to see if they have the meat.

According to the recall announcement, the beef product is:

  • 16-oz. (1-lb.) vacuum-sealed packages containing “FORWARD FARMS GRASS-FED GROUND BEEF” with “USE OF FREEZE BY 01/13/26 EST 2083” printed on the side of the packaging.

E. coli O26 can cause some serious health problems and according to FSIS, it takes an average of about 34 days for people to become ill from exposure. Most people recover after about a week of symptoms but more serious cases can lead to kidney failure.

Thankfully, there have been no reports of any illnesses due to consumption, but experts warn that "some product may be in consumers' refrigerators or freezers."
