If you've recently hit up an ATM for some cash, you may have been a little bit startled by how much the fees were.
That's because, according to a recent Bank Rate Survey, ATM fees hit a 26-year high!
According to the survey, ATM fees hit a high of $4.77 per transaction in 2024.
This marked a steady increase from $4.73 the previous year, the highest rate the Bank Rate recorded since they began the surveys in 1998.
Overdraft Fees on the Rise
According to the Bank Rate survey, not only are our ATM fees on the rise but so are the average overdraft fees.
According to the report, overdraft fees were $ $26.61 in 2023 and are now reported at $27.08.
Believe it or not, 94% of the people the survey chatted with are impacted by overdraft fees.
What are ATM Fees
When using an ATM, ultimately, a few fees go into making the total charge.
The first is the surcharge, which the bank charges for anyone who is not a customer of their branch or ATM.
The other fee that is generally charged is an out-of-network fee.
The customer's bank also imposes this charge for using an ATM not associated with their financial institution.
One way or another, everyone has to get their money!
