Montana Officials Report Dead Animals Testing Positive for ‘Blue Tongue’
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks just issued an important notice regarding deer and antelope showing up dead or dying.
And if you're a hunter, you'll want to listen up and pay attention before harvesting.
Montana FWP Warns of "Blue Tongue'
Montana FWP shared in a post to Facebook that they've been receiving reports of deer and antelope turning up dead around rivers in the area.
According to officials, these dead deer and antelope are testing positive for "epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD) and blue tongue (BT)."

And while the disease isn't a threat to humans, experts say you should still exercise caution when harvesting.
"Hemorrhagic diseases are not a risk to humans, and meat from animals that appear healthy at the time of harvest is safe to eat when properly cooked," Montana FWP said in their statement.
"Hunters should avoid harvesting or consuming animals that appear sick."
What Are the Symptoms of These Diseases?
Experts say these diseases cause fever and dehydration in these animals which would explain why they're often found dead near rivers.

"FWP staff continue to monitor the situation. It is not necessary for the public to report additional dead animals suspected of having a hemorrhagic disease, especially if found along waterbodies, in Yellowstone and Big Horn counties," Montana FWP said in their post.
"Potential cases in other counties in south-central Montana can be reported by calling FWP at 406-247-2940."
