This Simple Freezer Trick Could Save You Money
Here in Montana we're pretty adept at not letting things such as weather get us all worked up.
Severe thunderstorms in the summer and harsh winter climates have made us pretty tough here in the Treasure State.
It's also made us start taking precautions and having a plan, which is where freezing your quarter comes into play.
Could a Frozen Quarter Save Your Family’s Dinner?
A while back I came across this hack from Reader's Digest, and it's helped me in the past, and it might help you in the future.
Should a storm knock your power out, say when you're sleeping or out of town, this hack will help determine if your frozen food has spoiled.
Here's what you do.
- Take a coffee mug, fill it with water, freeze it
- Once frozen, place a quarter on top
- Place it back in the freezer and don’t think about it again
You won't have to worry about it until the next time the power goes out, and if the quarter is still on top of the ice, you're good; if it's on the bottom, it means your food has thawed and most likely needs to be thrown out.
