Montana Romance Scam Losses Have Exploded
A new analysis of FBI data by Cloaked has revealed that Montana now ranks #1 in America for reported losses from romance and relationship scams.
Cloaked found that here in Montana, nearly $1.2 million was lost per 100,000 residents. That's a pretty eye-opening number, especially when most people think something like this will never happen to them.
Worse yet, the report also found that 56% of people who were victims of a romance scam never recovered a single dollar.
If you thought that was as bad as the report could get for Montana, you'd be wrong, because in just two years, Montana went from $1.5 million stolen in 2023 to $13.6 million in 2025.

Many Romance Scam Victims Never Tell Anyone
That puts Montana at #8 for the largest increase in reported scam losses, which means the actual number could be even higher.
That's because Cloaked found that one-third of victims never told anyone they had been scammed, while 74% never even told their families.
So if you have a family member who suddenly starts talking about someone they just met online needing money for an emergency, take a moment to dig a little deeper.
Because not only are romance scams happening here in Montana, they're costing people A LOT of money.
