How The Big Sky State Measures Up
According to WalletHub's recently released list of the "Most Overweight & Obese States in America," Montana ranks better than many states, but there is still room for improvement.
It's a tale of two sides for sure; we work pretty hard in Montana, and during the summer months, we're very active outdoors.
Well, not all of us stay as active during the winter months. Then with comfort food taking priority over dietary needs, it’s easy to pack on pounds.
How WalletHub Ranks States On Obesity And Health
There were three rankings WalletHub used to get their total score rank, with #1 being the most obese, and they are as follows:
- Obesity & Overweight Prevalence Rank
- Health Consequences Rank
- Food & Fitness Rank
Our best showing would have to be our Obesity & Overweight Prevalence Ranking, in which we ranked #47, putting us near the bottom for obesity problems.
Our Health Consequences Rank was our worst ranking, as we ranked #20. This is tracking those with high cholesterol or diabetes.
Finally, our food & fitness rank was #39. This looked at things like sugar intake and weekly servings of vegetables.
You add all those totals together, and you see that Montana ranks #45, which makes Montana one of the healthiest states in America, so go get that hamburger; you earned it!
