Montana Ranks Among The Most Patriotic States

As we get closer to America's 250th anniversary, you're going to be hearing a lot about patriotism.

With that celebration on the horizon, WalletHub decided to find out which states are the most patriotic, and I don't think Montana's ranking is going to surprise many people.

WalletHub Study Finds Montana Near The Top For Patriotism

According to their latest study, Montana ranks as the second most patriotic state in America, trailing only Virginia.

Now, before you picture researchers driving around counting American flags hanging on porches, that's not how they came up with the rankings.

WalletHub looked at more than a dozen different factors tied to patriotism and civic engagement, including military service, voter turnout, volunteer work, jury duty participation, and more.

So no, Montana didn't land at #2 just because we love talking about America or flying the flag.

Volunteerism And Service Help Boost Montana’s Ranking

We ranked that high because Montanans tend to show up and get involved.

Just look at some of the numbers. Montana had the highest voter turnout in the country during the 2024 election, with nearly 70% of eligible voters casting a ballot. We also rank second in jury service participation.

On top of that, Montana has the second-highest number of AmeriCorps volunteers per capita, and more than 37% of residents volunteer with organizations, one of the highest rates in the nation.

Showing up, pitching in, and helping your neighbors. That sounds pretty Montana to me.
