A New Ransomware Is Affecting Users
Newsweek reports that the FBI is warning users of the two most popular email providers to be on the lookout for a new ransomware called "Medusa" that is making the rounds.
If you aren't familiar with ransomware, what happens is when your computer is infected by the ransomware, all your data gets locked away, unable to be accessed without a decryption key.
Here is where the hackers will demand money to unlock your information or, to put it another way, ask for a ransom, hence the name ransomware.
What Emails Should You Be On The Lookout For?
Honestly, you should never be clicking or opening an email from any email address you don't know or recognize to keep you and your data safe, but just in case, here are some of the most frequent emails associated with the "Medusa" ransomware.
- key.medusa.serviceteam@protonmail.com
- medusa.support@oinionmail.org
- mds.svt.mir2@protonmail.com
- MedusaSupport@cock.li
Sadly, if you see any of these emails in your inbox, it might already be too late.
